Description

Morning, Vatican

Follow the knowledgeable guide on a captivating tour around Vatican City and discover two of its most unique treasures:

  • Vatican Museums
  • Sistine Chapel

Apart from the historical explanation, your guide will also tell stories of betrayal and lust!

Afternoon, Ancient Rome

After visiting Vatican City, you’ll have time to eat at your own leisure and then meet your guide in the afternoon to continue the visit. The afternoon tour's itinerary is the same as the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine guided tour. You'll visit the following landmarks:

  • Colosseum
  • Roman Forum
  • Palatine Hill

St. Peter's Basilica

Access to St. Peter's Basilica from the Sistine Chapel is normally open, although we can't guarantee that you'll be able to enter the church from here due to masses and religious events that may be taking place.

In any case, if you'd like to visit the basilica on your own after the tour, you can get there from St. Peter's Square.

Meeting points

In the morning, the tour begins at Viale Giulio Cesare, 209-229, between the pharmacy and the Giulio Cesare cinema (100 metres from the A Ottaviano metro).

In the afternoon, the tour begins at the Colosseum metro stop (Line B), at the lower exit, on Via dei Fori Imperiali, between the green kiosk and the fountain.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q - How long is the rest time between tours?

A - Rest depends on thetime of year, in summer it's normally 3 hours and in the winter an hour and a half. The exact time of the colosseum tour will be confirmed on the day of the tour.

  • Q - How many people are there per group approximately?

A - The Vatican tour has a maximum of 30 people per guide and the Colosseum tour has a maximum of 24 people per guide.

  • Q - Does the tour include transfer between the Vatican and the Colosseum?

A - This tour is the combination of two tours at a reduced price. Transportation from one point to the other must be done on your own.

  • Q - How do we get from the Vatican to the Colosseum?

A - There are several routes from the Vatican to the Colosseum. Bus number 40 is at the end of Via della Conciliazione (near Castel Sant'Angelo). It runs frequently, is fast and will drop you off in Piazza Venezia. From there, you can walk through the forums (about 10 minutes) or you can take bus 85 to the Colosseum. Another option, although a bit longer, is to take bus number 81 from Piazza Risorgimento to Via dei Fori Imperiali. Although we don't recommend it, since it's a longer route with slightly more complicated connections, you can also take the Metro A from the Ottaviano stop to Termini, where you'll have to change to line B, which will take you to the Colosseum stop. If you prefer, you can pay for a cab to take you directly to the Colosseum (about 10EUR).

  • Q - Are backpacks allowed?

A - The Vatican Museums have a locker service so that larger backpacks can be left at the entrance. Please note: the Colosseum does not have a locker service and only small backpacks can be taken inside.

  • Q - Is this activity accessible to people with a minor disability?

A - This tour should not be a problem for someone with a minor disability. However, it should be noted that in the Colosseum, the paths are made of stone, so the client may have difficulty keeping up with the pace of the guide.

  • Q - Is there a cloakroom at the Vatican?

A - There is a cloakroom service at the Vatican Museums but not at the Colosseum.

  • Q - Can I bring a pushchair/stroller?

    A - Visitors aren't allowed to bring pushchairs/strollers.

  • Q - Is there a dress code to enter the Vatican?

A - The dress code to enter St Peter’s Basilica is quite strict. Men and women must have their shoulders and knees covered. Men should wear long trousers.

  • Q - Are there disability discount tickets?

A - Vatican City: You can get a refund only for the museum ticket if you have a disability of more than 74%. After booking, you must inform the provider by attaching the disability certificate at least 72 hours before the start of the tour." Except for disability, there is no discount. Colosseum: there are tickets for the disabled, but it depends on the disability, you could enter with the group or not. That is, if the disability does not affect the movement, they can do the tour normally, but if it affects the movement, it can not be done, the customer would have to do the tour privately.

  • Q - Is it possible to book for school groups?

A - Unfortunately, this is not possible. For school groups, access reserved for schools must be expressly reserved on the Colosseum website. In addition, a list of all students and accompanying persons must be presented on paper with a school stamp at the entrance to the monument.

  • Q - How to book?

A - To reserve the activity, choose the date and complete the form on this page. You will receive your confirmation immediately.
