Old Athens + Acropolis Tour
At the selected time, we'll meet at 26 Athanasiou Diakou to begin our tour of old Athens, a tour in which we'll discover the importance of this city whose origins date back more than three thousand years.
We'll delve into the past of the Greek capital making the first stop at Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which was the largest in Greece during the Hellenistic era. From here we'll walk to the imposing Acropolis of Athens, one of the most visited places in the world.
As we access the archaeological site through the Propylaea, the ancient entrance gate, we'll be able to see the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechtheion. We'll get to know the most interesting details of the architecture and functionality of these ancient buildings, thus immersing ourselves in the Hellenistic culture.
Next, we'll continue our journey back in time by visiting the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, where musical performances were held, and passing by the Agora, the center of social, political, and commercial life in ancient Athens. We'll see the Neoclassical building of the National Observatory of Athens and climb to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the hills of Philopappos, Mars, and Pnyx.
Our tour will continue through the Monastiraki district, where we'll find the ruins of Hadrian's Library and the Tower of the Winds. Do you want to know what its function was? We'll find out soon!
Lastly, we'll end the tour after a stroll through the charming Athenian neighborhoods of Plaka and Anafiotika. We'll part ways in Anafiotika three and a half hours after the start of the tour.
